Here are some steps to follow when fishing for crappie using a jig head:

  1. Choose the right jig head: The size and color of the jig head you choose will depend on the water conditions and the preferences of the fish. Generally, a 1/16 to 1/8-ounce jig head in colors like chartreuse, pink, or white work well for crappie.  In the video, Hooked Up Fishing used his own hand tied crappie jigs.   In the video, he shown his jig.

And He also spray Slab sauce on his jigs.

If you can’t afford his customized jigs, you can find some alternatives from Amazon, it works great too:

2. Use a 8 ft light fishing rod and line: Crappie have a delicate mouth, so it’s important to use a light rod and line to avoid tearing the hook out of their mouth when setting the hook. A 4-6 lb. test line and a light to medium power rod should be sufficient.

3. Find the crappie: Look for areas with structure such as brush piles, fallen trees, or weed beds where crappie like to hide.

4. Cast your jig: Once you have located a good spot, cast your jig out and let it sink to the bottom. Once it reaches the bottom, slowly reel in the line, pausing occasionally to let the jig sink again.

5. Watch for bites: Crappie bites can be subtle, so it’s important to pay close attention to your line. If you see any movement or feel a slight tug, set the hook by quickly pulling back on the rod.

6. Vary your retrieve: If you’re not getting any bites, try changing the speed and rhythm of your retrieve until you find what works best for the conditions and the fish.

By following these steps, you should be able to catch crappie using a jig head. Remember to always check your local fishing regulations and practice catch-and-release fishing whenever possible to help conserve the fish population.
